St. George Bank was founded in 1937 as a building society. As of incorporation, St. George Bank was then known as St. George Co-Operative Building Society Ltd. After centuries of growth in the area, it achieved its banking status and became a public company in 1992. With new activities under its belt, the bank became one of the most profitable banks in Australia. In December 2008, it became a subsidiary of the WestPac Group that is one of the four largest Australian financial institutions. The bank has a long history of sponsoring community based activities.
